    IELTS Exam Updates - 2026

IELTS Moves to a Digital-First Format

Starting from mid-2026, the IELTS exam will primarily be conducted in a digital format, and the traditional fully paper-based test will no longer be available.

However, in selected locations, candidates will still have the option to complete the Writing section on paper while taking the rest of the test digitally.

The overall test format, the skills being assessed, and the scoring system will remain exactly the same. The validity of IELTS scores will also continue to be two years, ensuring that results are accepted by universities, employers, and immigration authorities just as they are today.

For candidates applying through UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), the Secure English Language Test (SELT) will be offered only in a fully digital format.

Additionally, One Skill Retake will also be available for candidates who choose the Writing on Paper option. However, the retake must be completed in the same mode as the original test. For example, if a candidate takes the Writing section on paper, they must also take their One Skill Retake on paper rather than on a computer.

    What is the IELTS Exam?

If you’re planning to study, work, or settle abroad, you’ve probably heard about the IELTS exam. IELTS, which stands for the International English Language Testing System, is one of the most trusted English language tests in the world.

The exam is designed to check how well you can communicate in English in real-life situations. It assesses four essential language skills—Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking—to measure your overall English proficiency.

Today, IELTS is accepted by 12,000+ universities, employers, professional organizations, and immigration authorities across countries like Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and many more.

Whether you’re aiming for higher education, a better career, or a new life overseas, a good IELTS score can open the door to countless opportunities.
